Semifinals Set in GLVC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – Four teams earned wins in the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon, advancing to the semifinals on Friday, November 4, in Lebanon, Ill. The semifinals and finals will be held on the campus of McKendree University on Nov. 4 and 6.

No. 2 McKendree, No. 3 Maryville University, No. 5 University of Illinois Springfield, and No. 8 University of Missouri-St. Louis each won their respective quarterfinal match. This marks the first time in league history that these four seed numbers advanced in the same year.

Both games will be played on Leemon Field at times yet to be determined. The semifinals will also be streamed live and free on the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN) with more information available on the Championship Central homepage at GLVCsports.com/2022wsoc.

Sunday's quarterfinals were held on the campuses of the higher seed.

BOX | RECAPS:  UMSL | RU
Missouri-St. Louis took an early lead with its first goal coming in the 11th minute off the foot of Maya Ware before Candice Parziani converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to give the Tritons a 2-0 halftime lead. Rockhurst would finally respond in the 83rd minute with a goal from back-to-back reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Anna Lantz, but didn’t have enough time left to find the equalizer. The victory marks the Tritons’ 10th league quarterfinal win overall and second-straight upset as the eighth seed, as they defeated top-seeded McKendree in penalty kicks in 2021.

#2 McKendree 2, #7 Indianapolis 1
BOX | RECAPS:  MCK | UINDY
Despite scoring the first goal of the game in the 31st minute from Kiki Sauceda, Indianapolis allowed two goals in the second half that sent 19th-ranked McKendree to its sixth GLVC semifinal. Anna Stiffler converted the equalizer in the 49th minute, and Morgan Bova earned the game-winner at 65:18 to keep the Bearcats’ hopes of a fourth Conference crown alive.

#3 Maryville 1, #6 Drury 0
BOX | RECAPS:  MU | DU
Maryville scored its lone goal in the 31st minute thanks to Elsa Nilson-Hurtig, which was one of just four shots on goal in the game – all for the Saints. This is just the second time the Saints have advanced to the semifinals, while they were also the third seed in 2017, and they’ll be looking for their first appearance in the championship match.

#5 Illinois Springfield 1, #4 Lewis 0
BOX | RECAPS:  UIS | LEWIS
It took 59 minutes and 31 seconds for Illinois Springfield to score the goal that would send the Prairie Stars to their first-ever visit to the semifinal round of the league event. It was Sierra Cenek that sealed UIS’s fate in just its second appearance in the postseason, with its first coming in 2017 as the 8-seed.
