INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University has earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Overall Sportsmanship Award for the 2012-13 academic year, it was announced by the conference office Friday. The institution will be presented the award at the 2013 Enterprise Rent-a-Car Spring Awards Banquet on Tuesday, May 21 in St. Louis, Mo. The Panthers were recognized for best displaying ‘Good Sportsmanship’ across all sports sponsored by the GLVC during the 2012-13 season.
The SAAC Overall Sportsmanship Award is determined by the institution receiving the most points at the end of the academic year based on the results of the SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards for the fall, winter and spring seasons.
The Panthers earned the team sportsmanship award in three of the league’s 18 sports, including men’s and women’s cross country and softball.
Drury takes home its first-ever SAAC Overall Sportsmanship Award and becomes the fourth GLVC school to garner the honor since the award’s inception five years ago. Southern Indiana claimed the 2011-12 title, which ended Bellarmine’s two-year run as the conference’s recipient of the award. Northern Kentucky claimed the inaugural award in 2007-08 and UW-Parkside earned the overall honor in 2008-09.
