BOX SCORE

SOMERS, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside captured its fifth Great Lakes Valley Conference title with a 4-1 victory over Missouri S&T Sunday in the GLVC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament held at Wood Road Field in Somers, Wisconsin.

UW-Parkside saw four different Rangers score in the championship final to help the program secure its first GLVC Championship since 2010.  UWP also earned the 2008, 2004 and 2003 titles, while tacking on regular-season crowns in 2014, 2008 and 2004.
The Rangers (17-0-3) outscored their three GLVC Championship Tournament opponents by a 10-1 margin.

Taylor Schiffer-Jander scored her seventh goal of the season just 74 seconds into the game, while Kelsey Armour tacked on the team’s second goal in the 20th minutes, redirecting a Niekie Pellens corner kick into the back of the net for her fifth score of the year. The Miners (9-10-1) cut the deficit to just a goal in the 28th minute with Sabrina Hostler scoring on a corner kick from Alex McCord. The goal snapped Parkside's shutout streak at 548 minutes and was just the fifth goal conceded all season by the Green and White.

Parkside extended its 2-1 advantage almost shortly after halftime with Jillian Hetfleisch’s seventh goal of the season coming in the 53rd minute.  GLVC Freshman of the Year added the final goal of the game just two minutes later, scoring off an assist from Pellens in the 56th minute.

The Rangers finished the game with a 19-2 edge in shots with the defense not allowing S&T to get off a shot the entire second half.

Goalkeeper Mallory Geurts made one save in 90 minutes of work to collect the win while her counterpart Kaitlyn Deister made four saves and allowed four goals.

Despite falling in the title match, it was memorable day for the Lady Miners as Sunday marked the first time in school history a Missouri S&T women’s team advanced to a conference championship final in any sport.  S&T closes the season with the most wins since the 2000 campaign.

The Rangers, who earned the GLVC’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament, discover their next opponent on Monday night when the 48-team field is unveiled on NCAA.com during the Women's Soccer Selection Show at 6 p.m.
