INDIANAPOLIS – The GLVC Sports Network will stream 10 hours of coverage over three days of the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships, which begin Sunday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
This is the first time in the history of the conference championships that the event will be streamed.
The GLVCSN will stream live and free coverage of the 37th annual event, which will be contested April 19-21 on a course that is hosting the three-day championship for the first time. Located just north of Indianapolis, Prairie View Golf Club will be set up at a par of 72 and 6,983 yards.
The GLVC Championship features a 54-hole stroke play event with the top four teams following stroke play competing in medal/match play to determine the conference champion. A total of 36 holes will be played on Sunday, April 19, followed by 18 holes on Monday, April 20. The semifinals and finals of match play will take place on Tuesday, April 21.
Due to inclement weather approaching the area, Sunday’s tee time format has been altered to a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start to give the field its best chance to complete 36 holes. The GLVC Championship committee will determine Monday’s format following Sunday’s action.
The format change has also affected the live streaming plans for the GLVC Sports Network. Instead of showcasing the tee shots on both No. 1 and 10, the GLVCSN will now offer split-screen footage of the No. 1 and 10 tee areas as well as No. 18 green from 8:45-11:15 a.m. ET. Jim Powers, who was on hand for coverage of the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships and GLVC Basketball Tournament, will be on the call throughout the event. Following the conclusion of each 18 hole round, Powers will host a 30-minute recap show on the GLVCSN, which will air at approximately 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET.
The GLVCSN will return to stream two-and-a-half hours of action Monday morning, with a tee time start covering 7:45-10:15 a.m., or a shotgun start from 8:45-11:15. Should the 54 holes of stroke play conclude as scheduled Monday, the GLVCSN will air the awards ceremony along with the second annual GLVC Medal/Match Play Championship Selection Show.
Coverage will also be dedicated to both the semifinal and final rounds of medal/match play on Tuesday as well.
Last year Indianapolis earned its conference-best 15th league crown and captured back-to-back titles for the first time since the 2008 and 2009 seasons. As the No. 1 seed in medal/match play, the Greyhounds defeated Missouri-St. Louis 3-2 at Otter Creek in Columbus, Indiana.
UIndy returns to the GLVC Championships as the No. 1 seed for stroke play as the Hounds currently rank second in the Midwest Region rankings according to Golfstat. UMSL (3rd in the Midwest), and Lewis (5th) will compete in threesomes with UIndy, while Drury (12th), Bellarmine (15th) and McKendree (16th) will play in the second wave as teams seeded fourth through sixth, respectively. Rounding out the field is Rockhurst, Illinois Springfield, UW-Parkside, Maryville, William Jewell, Southern Indiana, Quincy and Saint Joseph’s.
In addition to UIndy’s 15 league titles, Lewis and former GLVC member Northern Kentucky have won six each, and Bellarmine follows with five. Southern Indiana, UW-Parkside and former member Ashland have all claimed the GLVC Championship once.
The top five finishers at the GLVC Championships are named All-GLVC and the top placing individual after 54-hole medal play earns medalist honors. The remaining golf awards, including All-Conference positions Nos. 6-10, as well as GLVC Player, Freshman, and Coach of the Year, are named prior to NCAA Regional competition.
Four of the top five finishers from last year’s event return for a run for the crown, including defending conference medalist Tucker Guisewite of Indianapolis. Guisewite shot a 3-under-par 213 (72-69-72) to earn a one-shot victory over a pair of McKendree University standouts in Garrett Sneed (73-69-72--214) and Nathan Nottrott (72-71-71--214), who each finished the 54-hole stroke play competition at 2-under. Missouri-St. Louis' Anthony Cope (71-70-74--215) and Lewis’ Robert Dofflemyer (74-70-71--215) finished one stroke back tied for fourth at 1-under. McKendree’s Sneed was the lone top five finisher lost to graduation.
Three additional standouts that will also look to vie for the individual title are Rockhurst’s Nick Arman, Lewis’ Alex Thode and UMSL’s Colby Yates, who rank fifth, seventh and eighth in the Midwest Region, respectively. Guisewite is sixth in the rankings, while teammate Graham McAree is ninth.
