EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Thursday that University of Southern Indiana senior MacKenzi Dorsam was selected as the Player of the Year in the sport of softball. Additionally, University of Missouri-St. Louis sisters, junior Hannah and freshman Jennah Perryman, have been respectively named GLVC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, while Triton head coach Brian Levin was voted by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year. These four individuals were recognized for their efforts at an awards reception on the eve of the 2015 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament, which begins Friday, May 1 in East Peoria, Illinois. A total of 40 student-athletes were also recognized as All-Conference honorees.

Dorsam is just the second Screaming Eagle to earn the league’s top honor, as Karianne Osowski was honored 20 years ago in 1995. Dorsam led the league this season in batting average (.461), slugging percentage (.879), on-base percentage (.556), runs scored (47), hits per game (1.48), total bases (124) and RBI per game (1.14), while finishing second in RBI (50), runs scored per game (1.07), walks (27), walks per game (0.61) and plate appearances per game (3.89). She also ended the season third in the loop with 65 hits and fourth in home runs (15). The second baseman was also named GLVC Player of the Week earlier in the year on April 21. Nationally, she ranks in the top 20 for four different categories, including slugging percentage (11th), on-base percentage (14th), home runs per game (0.34, 14th), home runs (t-16th), and batting average (17th).

The Dubois, Indiana native started all 44 games of the season for USI with 141 at bats. She tallied 27 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles, and was successful in 7-of-11 stolen base attempts. The righty also earned a spot on the All-GLVC First Team.

Hannah Perryman had an impressive year in the circle for the Tritons; most notably, tying and then breaking the NCAA Division II record for single season and career perfect games, as she now stands at five and six, respectively. She also is tied for 23rd in DII history with 1,061 strikeouts while becoming the DII leader for career strikeouts per seven innings (13.1). This season, the junior was thrice named GLVC Pitcher of the Week and twice recognized as Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week.

The Streamwood, Illinois, native leads the league in opposing batting average (.137), strikeouts per game (13.51), and hits allowed per game (3.37). She finished second in the loop in batters struck out (301), wins (22), and doubles allowed per game (.54), while ranking third in ERA (1.30), batters struck out looking (57), hits allowed (75), and runs allowed per game (1.57). Moreover, the reigning two-time GLVC Pitcher of the Year ranks in the top 10 for innings pitched (156), saves (3), appearances (33), games started (27), runs allowed (35), earned runs allowed (29), walks allowed (22), doubles allowed (12), and walks allowed per game (0.99). On the national stage, the southpaw leads all DII pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings (13.5) while third in hits allowed per seven innings (3.50), fourth in shutouts (11) and single-game high of 18 strikeouts, and fifth in total strikeouts (301).

Younger sister Jennah Perryman is the second UMSL newcomer to glean GLVC Freshman of the Year as teammate Alex Stupek earned the distinction just last season. Perryman cracked the conference top 10 in four statistical categories, including slugging percentage (.678), home runs (13), homers per game (0.29) and walks per game (0.44). Overall, the rookie hit .314 in 121 at bats, starting all 45 games. She scored 30 runs, tallied 38 hits with five doubles, while also driving in 28 runs. The Streamwood, Illinois, product accumulated 82 total bases with a .415 on-base percentage as well as a .678 slugging percentage. For her efforts, Perryman earned a spot on the All-GLVC Second Team.

This is Levin’s second honor as GLVC Coach of the Year, as he was also voted to receive the recognition in 2011 in his first year at the helm. The Triton skipper has led his team to a 40-6 overall record, the only league team to break the 40-win barrier in the 2015 regular season. He also led the group to a 25-5 GLVC mark, securing the Triton’s second regular-season title as well as a No. 1 seed entering the conference championship tournament this weekend. Earlier in the season, UMSL owned a league-best, 19-game winning streak and is currently ranked No. 2 nationally – the highest ranking achieved under Levin’s tutelage.

Joining the eldest Perryman on the All-GLVC First Team include UMSL seniors Brianna Butler and Katie Rutledge as well as Stupek. Senior Madison Zbaraschuk joins the younger of the two Perryman sisters on the Second Team, while seniors Jena Boudreau, Brittni Chapman, Hannah Wessels and Katie Wood were selected to the Third Team. Along with USI’s Dorsam, classmate Brooke Harmening was voted to the First Team, while sophomore Grace Clark is on the Second Team and junior Toni Braun joins the Third Team. Behind UMSL, Indianapolis had the second-most honorees named to the First Team, including senior outfielder Casey Williamson and juniors Morgan Foley at pitcher and Erika Goodwin in the outfield.

Each of the three All-GLVC teams is made up of 13 players, including four infielders by position (3B, SS, 2B, 1B), three outfielders, one catcher, one designated player, three pitchers and one utility player. Due to a tie at catcher, the Second Team is made up of 14 players.
