Five GLVC men’s basketball teams opened the 2016-17 season with perfect marks last week, including Southern Indiana and Truman State at 2-0. Drury, McKendree and Rockhurst each won their respective season openers.
Looking to expand on that number is Missouri S&T and William Jewell, which begin their seasons Tuesday with home contests against Principia and Missouri Western, respectively.
Regional play continues Thursday with Lewis at Saginaw Valley State, Northwood at UW-Parkside, and Indianapolis at Lake Superior State.
Headlining this week’s action will be the inaugural Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic held this weekend at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. No. 3 Bellarmine and Southern Indiana will compete against a nationally-ranked field that includes second-ranked Lincoln Memorial, No. 5 Alabama-Huntsville, and Kentucky Wesleyan, which is receiving votes outside the NABC poll along with USI. The other participant is Florida Southern, which won the NCAA DII Championship at the Ford Center in 2015.

Zach Steinberg led the way with a double-double, scoring a game-high 16 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Five Prairie Stars scored in double figures as UIS shot 50 percent from the field for the game.

GLVC men's basketball teams went 3-1 on Wednesday with Illinois Springfield, Missouri S&T and Rockhurst finding the win columns. In its 100-60 victory over Rober Morris-Springfield, Illinois Springfield saw five Prairie Stars score in double figures as it reached triple digits for the fourth time since the start of last season. Clutch three-point shooting – particularly late in the contest – and a couple of key plays in the final seconds by
Juwan Miller propelled Missouri S&T to a big early season win as it knocked off Lincoln 91-88. After outscoring Emporia State 50-28 at halftime, Rockhurst held on for an 81-78 victory to move to 2-0 on the season. Elsewhere, Truman State ended the first half on an 18-4 run and led host Lindenwood 47-41 at the break. However, the Lions outscored the Bulldogs 53-36 in the second half en route to the 94-83 decision and the Purple and White's first loss of the season.

The GLVC completed a perfect sweep in the inaugural Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic Saturday as Bellarmine defeated Florida Southern 97-61, while Southern Indiana beat former Conference rival Kentucky Wesleyan, 85-81. Following wins on Friday, Bellarmine and USI combined to go 4-0 in the event, which was held at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana -- site of the 2017 GLVC Championship Tournament. USI is now 4-0 on the season, and is joined in the ranks of the unbeaten by Drury and Missouri S&T at 3-0 and McKendree at 2-0.
