Fourteen GLVC men’s basketball teams will open the 2016-17 season this weekend, including Bellarmine, Maryville, Missouri-St. Louis, Quincy, Saint Joseph’s and Truman State competing on Friday.
The featured matchup of the weekend will be No. 3 Bellarmine traveling to No. 4 Saginaw Valley State on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Saint Joseph’s will also be in Midland, Michigan and play SVSU on Saturday following its Friday tip at Northwood in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge. Bellarmine will face Northwood on Saturday.
UMSL welcomes fellow GLVC foe Quincy to St. Louis as both teams will play Ferris State and Grand Valley State this weekend as part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge.
In Cedarville, Ohio, Maryville and Truman State will battle G-MAC members Cedarville and Trevecca Nazarene.
On Saturday, Indianapolis hosts it portion of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge, welcoming Southern Indiana, Ashland and Lake Erie. Lewis will also host the Challenge event, as UW-Parkside, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan are set to travel to Romeoville, Illinois.
Also in action Saturday will be No. 22 Drury, McKendree and Rockhurst.
Illinois Springfield will open its campaign at Findlay on Sunday.

GLVC men's basketball opened the 2016-17 season 3-3 on Friday with wins by Quincy, Saint Joseph's, and Truman State. Quincy scored a 79-71 win against Grand Valley State behind Evan McGaughey's 16 points and 13 rebounds in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge. Saint Joseph's also netted a win in the Challenge with an 82-78 victory against Northwood. The Pumas put four in double figures, paced by Eric Gillespie's 22 points. Truman State's Nathan Messer netted 18 points in 21 minutes to help the Bulldogs to an 82-70 win at Cedarville. Elsewhere, No. 3 Bellarmine overcame a 17-point first-half deficit but No. 4 Saginaw Valley State posted a game-winning three-pointer with four seconds remaining for a 68-66 victory. Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis fell to Trevecca Nazarene and Ferris State in their respective openers.

On the second night of the GLVC men's basketball season, league teams took seven of the 13 games on the docket, with wins by No. 3 Bellarmine, No. 22 Drury, McKendree, Missouri-St. Louis, Rockhurst, Southern Indiana and Truman State. Rockhurst eclipsed the century mark in a 101-91 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan and Truman State became the first conference team to win its first two games. Elsewhere, Saint Joseph's nearly pulled off an upset of No. 4 Saginaw Valley State, falling 81-80 in Midland, Michigan.
