The following "Starting Five" points offer a quick look inside GLVC women's basketball action this week:

[1 | non-league action back in the lineup] GLVC women's basketball returns to the courts this week, beginning with Quincy hosting a non-conference game Tuesday evening. Wednesday finds five more league teams competing out of the GLVC, while cross-town rivals William Jewell and Rockhurst will face off that night in Kansas City. A lone non-league matchup is set at UW-Parkside on Thursday, and a mixture of non-GLVC and GLVC contests are on the docket for Saturday and Sunday.

[2 | six teams start league play 2-0] Six teams began their Conference quest with perfect 2-0 starts this past week, including Bellarmine (8-0) that continues as the only undefeated GLVC team to this point in the season. Joining the Knights in the East Division with a 2-0 start were Lewis (8-1) and Southern Indiana (7-1), while Drury (8-1), Rockhurst (6-2) and William Jewell (4-2) were the three West teams to do the same.

[3 | three ranked in wbca national poll, two in top 11] Bellarmine, Drury and Lewis represent the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Poll, it was announced Tuesday (Dec. 6). Thanks to its continued undefeated streak, Bellarmine held onto its No. 5 spot in the poll for the second week in a row. Drury again improved its ranking, moving three spots to No. 11 from No. 14, while Lewis kept its place at No. 18.

Behind Lewis in that category is Drury in fifth with a 48.5% clip. The Panthers are also shooting well from beyond the arc, well enough to be 10th with a 39.5% mark. Southern Indiana has been hot on both offense and defense, as it's reflected nationally with a scoring margin (30.1) that ranks fourth and a scoring defense that sits 10th (52.5). In addition, the Screaming Eagles are seventh in rebound margin, grabbing 13.4 more per game than their opponents. Lewis also has dished out the ninth most assists so far with 157. On the individual side, there are six players ranked in the top 10 in nine different categories, including William Jewell's Maddie Nelson for minutes played per game (39.33). Lewis' Jessica Kelliher ranks fourth in two separate categories: field goals made (70) and field-goal percentage (67.3). Also fourth in the nation is Illinois Springfield's Syerra Cunningham for rebounds per game (13.5). Moreover, the Prairie Star is sixth for defensive rebounds per game with nine. Kalea Parks of Saint Joseph's has the seventh-best mark for field goals made with 66, and two rank ninth in Division II: Maryville's Ali Ringering's three-point field-goal percentage (53.6) and Nelson's steals per game (3.50).
