On the women’s side, defending champion Lewis owns 54 points, nearly double the total of second place William Jewell (28). Two GLVC records were reestablished Saturday.
William Jewell senior Margaret Perko set a new league record in the pentathlon, netting 3,675 points in the win. Perko’s mark eclipsed the previous conference best of 3,627 point set by Lewis’ Megan Marchildon in 2014.
Southern Indiana posted a win in the distance medley relay in a time of 9 minutes, 59.92 seconds. USI’s Chase Broughton, DeAvion Sullivan, Jesse Stanley and Johnnie Guy set a new GLVC record with the sub-10 minute time and automatically qualified the relay squad for the NCAA Championships as the result converted to the sixth-fastest time of the year.
Lewis took home the women’s title in the DMR in 11:56.36, while Kristen Bonsor (17:18.86) gave the Flyers a win in the 5,000 meters. UW-Parkside’s Patrick Niyork (14:36.99) took home the title on the men’s side.
Lewis’ Amber Cook (5.87m) defeated defending champion and teammate Phoenix Smallwood (5.67m) in the long jump, securing an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. UIndy’s Josh Bass (6.99m) earned the league crown on the men’s side.
With Lewis’ Isaac Jean-Paul hindered with an injury in the high jump, a new GLVC champion was to be crowned, although it took a jump-off to do so. McKendree’s Alex McCrite, Missouri S&T’s Luke Moehlenbrock and UW-Parkside’s Rhashad Gray all cleared 2.01 meters, but it was McCrite beating out Moehlenbrock at a jump-off height of 2.03 meters to win his first-ever title.
Missouri S&T responded in the pole vault by sweeping the podium. Ryan MGuire cleared an NCAA provisional height of 4.88 meters to win the event, while teammates David Jones-Richer (4.68m) and defending champion Lucas Rosenbaum (4.68m) placed second and third, respectively.
In the women’s weight throw, UIndy’s Katie Monk reached 17.58 meters for an NCAA provisional mark, while fellow Greyhound Vincent Ziraldo also met provisional standards with a winning heave of 17.95 meters.
