KENOSHA, Wis. – Lewis University earned its third consecutive sweep at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships, which concluded Sunday night at the Frank Petretti Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Flyers’ women’s program scored 186.5 points on the week to earn its record-tying fifth GLVC Championship, as they also netted back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011.  Lewis was 95.5 points better than second-place finisher Indianapolis (91), resulting in a margin of victory that is the largest at the GLVC Championships since the 2008 meet.

Bellarmine finished third overall with 81.5 points, followed by William Jewell (61) and McKendree (53) in the top five.  Southern Indiana (42), Missouri S&T (41), UW-Parkside (37), Truman State (34), Maryville (23) and Saint Joseph’s (13) rounded out the field of the 11 scoring teams.

The Lewis men made quite the surge on Sunday as the Flyers entered the final day third in the team standings with 28.5 points, while Missouri S&T led the pack with 61 points.  In the end, Lewis totaled 152.5 points, followed by Indianapolis (131), Missouri S&T (94), Southern Indiana (70) and McKendree (56) in the top five.  Saint Joseph’s (42), UW-Parkside (38.5), Truman State (31), Bellarmine (21), William Jewell (20) and Maryville (6) were among the 11 teams to post a team score.

The Flyers took home their fourth overall conference crown, which is tied for first with Indianapolis and former member SIU Edwardsville for the most in league history.

Among the notable outcomes Sunday, Lewis was responsible for setting three new GLVC records.

Already a winner Sunday in the high jump, Amber Cook had a winning leap of 12.30 meters in the triple jump to eclipse the previous league best of 12.06 meters set by McKendree’s LaTia Jefferson in 2014.

Amanda Farrough registered a 9:44.03 in the 3,000 meters to shatter the GLVC record of 9:48.78, set by UW-Parkside’s Jessica Watychowicz in 2013.

In the men’s 800 meters, Lewis’ Sergio Miranda charted a new conference standard with a time of 1:51.07, besting teammate Matt Jemilo’s effort of 1:52.92 back in 2014.
