SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - University of Indianapolis sophomore Graham McAree carded a 6-under-par 66 on Monday to claim medalist honors at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship, while four league squads earned the right to battle for the GLVC title in match play competition on Tuesday at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois.

McAree shot a 5-under 211 (75-70-66) to earn the one-shot victory over Bellarmine University freshman James Inman (69-72-71—212), who finished the 54-hole stroke play competition at 4-under.  McAree’s 66 set the GLVC Championship record for a final-round score, while his 6-under round was the second-lowest on record as Northern Kentucky’s David Shearer shot a second-round 65 en route to earning medalist honors in 2005.  McAree’s 54-hole score of 211 is the fourth-lowest total in GLVC Championship history as Shearer posted a winning total of 7-under 209 in 2006, which was matched by UIndy’s Justin Hueber en route to the 2009 title.  UIndy’s Chad Hilderbrand netted a 210 to earn the 1993 GLVC title.

University of Missouri-St. Louis’ James Henderson (75-68-70) and Bellarmine’s DJ Vogt (72-71-70) tied for third overall at 3-under 213, while UMSL’s Julien de Poyen (69-73-73) and Lewis University’s Alex Thode (70-71-74) – the 2015 GLVC Champion – finished tied for fifth at 1-under 215.

All six individuals were named to the first half of the All-Conference team, as the second half of the 10-member squad along with the major postseason awards, including Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year will be determined by a coaches' vote prior to NCAA Regional play.

McAree becomes the 11th Greyhound to win the individual GLVC Championship and the first since Tucker Guisewite won the conference crown in 2014.

UMSL (290-283-290) finished the 54-hole stroke play competition with a new GLVC record of 1-under 863, besting the previous league mark of 864 set by UIndy in 2009.  The 863 earned the defending GLVC Champions the No. 1 seed in Tuesday's four-team match-play competition.  The Tritons will face No. 4 seed University of Illinois Springfield (288-301-287—876) at 8 a.m. CT Tuesday off the No. 1 tee.

Indianapolis (289-286-293—868) finished runner-up to UMSL by five strokes to garner the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed Bellarmine (284-290-301—875) at 8 a.m. off No. 10 tee.

The semifinal winners will meet in the afternoon 18-hole round to battle for the GLVC Championship.

Not advancing to match play competition was fifth-place Lewis University (294-297-290-881), Drury University (295-300-299—894) and University of Southern Indiana (297-291-306—894) in a tie for sixth, eighth-place finisher Rockhurst University (305-300-296—901), McKendree University (300-301-302—903), and Maryville University (297-309-298—904) to round out the top 10.  Wrapping up the 14-team field was Saint Joseph’s College (314-309-303—926), University of Wisconsin-Parkside (307-317-304—928), William Jewell College (307-315-321—943) and Quincy University (319-310-317—946).
