WATERLOO, Ill. -- The University of Indianapolis holds an eight-stroke lead after an opening round of 302 Friday at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championships, which is being held at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois.
The University of Illinois Springfield sits second in the 14-team field at 310, followed closely by the University of Missouri-St. Louis (311) and University of Southern Indiana (316). Lewis University (322), William Jewell College (323) and Drury University (324) are packed together in fifth through seventh, while Bellarmine University (330), Maryville University (331) and Truman State University (333) close out the top 10. McKendree University and Rockhurst University each fired a 345 to sit tied for 11th. Quincy University (349) and Saint Joseph’s College (372) round out the field.
In the individual race, UIndy freshman Katharina Keilich carded the round of the day with a 1-over-par 73, but sits just one stroke ahead of teammate Kylie Raines and Molly Flynn of Saint Joseph’s at 74. UMSL’s Ares Boira and UIndy’s Paxton DeHaven rounded out the top five with 3-over 75s. Defending GLVC Champion Allison Koester of Southern Indiana sits in a three-way tie for sixth at 76 with William Jewell’s Alex Trask and Illinois Springfield’s Maria Espinosa.
Saturday’s 18-hole round will commence at 8 a.m. CT with the top nine teams teeing off No. 10, while teams ranked 10th through 14 will start on No. 1, beginning at 8:27 a.m.
