WATERLOO, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis holds a 10-stroke lead after shooting a second round 303 Saturday at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championships, which is being held at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Illinois.
UIndy (302-303—605) is followed by the University of Missouri-St. Louis (311-304—615) that moved from third to second, improving by seven strokes from round one, which bumped the University of Illinois Springfield (310-313—623) from second down to third. The University of Southern Indiana (624) fired a 308 in round two, besting its first 18 (316) by eight strokes to remain in fourth place. USI is followed by Lewis (322-312—634), which also held its position in fifth on the leaderboard thanks to a 10-stroke improvement. Drury University (324-315—639) moved up one position from seventh to sixth after having improved by nine strokes, while William Jewell College (323-320—643) went from sixth to seventh despite a better round on day two. Nos. 8-10 held respectively steady with Bellarmine University (330-324—654), Maryville University (331-331—662) and Truman State University (333-330—663). Quincy (349-332—681) went from 13th to 11th after a whopping 17-stroke betterment from round one to two for the largest margin of improvement on the day. McKendree University (345-337—682), Rockhurst University (345-353—698) and Saint Joseph’s College (372-380—752) round out the field.
UIndy freshman Katharina Keilich remained in the individual lead, shooting a 2-over-par 74, while UMSL’s Alexa Capesius carded the round’s lowest score at 1-over 73 as she flew up the leaderboard from a tie for 13th to a tie for 4th after 36 holes. Along with Keilich, the Greyhounds own two other top-5 slots as Kylie Raines (74-75—149) is second and Paxton DeHaven (75-76—151) is tied for fourth. Jewell’s Alex Trask also shot a 74 on the day, two strokes better than her 76 from round one, giving her sole possession of third place with a 150 – just three strokes off the lead – heading into the final round. The 2015 individual medalist, Allison Koester (152), shot another round of 76 for USI and is tied for sixth with UMSL’s Ares Boira (75-77—152). Kayla Yn of UIS is eighth (77-76—153), and three others are tied for ninth.
Sunday’s 18-hole round will commence at 8 a.m. with teams ranked 7-14 starting on tee No. 10, and the top-six teams teeing off No. 1, beginning at 8:18.
