EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Six teams advanced to the second day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship Tournament after competing in eight games, including six in the winners' bracket and two in the losers' bracket. Competition resumes tomorrow, May 2 at 11 a.m. Central Time at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.

In true top-seed fashion, University of Indianapolis went 2-0 on the day, beating No. 8 William Jewell College in game one, 2-1, before winning game seven over No. 5 Truman State University, 2-0. The shutout added another no-hitter to the resume of UIndy senior pitcher Morgan Foley.

In game two, Truman State earned the first upset of the day over No. 4 Maryville University, 6-1, while No. 2 University of Missouri-St. Louis shutout No. 7 McKendree University 5-0 in game three. Truman belted three homers in the win, including two from Cate Simon for a total of five RBI to her name, and UMSL southpaw Hannah Perryman used 17 strikeouts to tally her 42nd win of the season from the circle.

No. 3 University of Southern Indiana pulled off a come-from-behind victory over No. 6 Bellarmine in game four, 9-7, as the game saw six home runs, including four from the Screaming Eagles. USI advanced to play UMSL in game eight, which turned into an extended battle that ultimately went the way of the Eagles, 7-5, after 11 innings. With the win, USI earned the other upset of the day thanks to three more dingers, totaling seven from its squad alone to go along with 22 combined for all teams. That mark matches the total homers on day one in 2012, exceeds last year's and 2013's total on day one by six, and is 10 more than compared to the 2014 opening day.

It was the bottom two seeds that packed up early with William Jewell getting shut out in game five by Maryville in the loser's bracket, 6-0, while also exiting the tournament was McKendree, sent home by Bellarmine in game six on an 8-2 decision in the loser's bracket. The Knights' win also gave head coach Renee Hicks her 500th career victory.

UIndy will play USI in the winner's bracket at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, April 30 on Field A for game 11, following two contests that will take place in the loser's bracket at 11 a.m. between #2 UMSL and #4 Maryville on Field A and #6 Bellarmine and #5 Truman on Field B for games nine and 10, respectively.

Game 12 and 13 in the loser's bracket will also be played Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively; however, there is a threat of rain in the morning forecast, so stay tuned to the GLVC Championship page and Twitter account listed below for updates to the remaining schedule.
