INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced Wednesday the 18 student-athletes who have been selected to attend the 2016 GLVC Football Kickoff, which will take place in Lebanon, Illinois on Friday, July 29. The GLVC contingent, highlighted by 13 All-Conference returners combining for 19 career postseason honors, will participate in the fifth annual event. The 2016 GLVC Football Kickoff will take place at The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on the campus of McKendree University from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT, and will serve both the league’s media members and passionate fans through several social media outlets.
The head coach and two student-athletes from each of the nine GLVC football institutions will be on hand to help promote the conference’s fifth season.
Four first-team All-GLVC honorees will be in attendance, including University of Indianapolis senior offensive lineman
Hayden Janney and senior linebacker
Rob Dury. Janney is the lone Kickoff attendee to have earned first-team All-GLVC honors in each of his first three seasons, while Dury is a two-time selection to the first team.
Truman State University senior defensive back
Austin Zoda has also earned All-Conference distinction in each of his three seasons, having been a first-team pick in 2015, following second-team laurels in his first two years. Zoda will be joined by teammate
Joey Schenck, a senior wideout who picked up second-team All-GLVC annals last year.
McKendree and Saint Joseph’s College will each be represented by a pair of former All-Conference honorees. The Bearcats will bring senior offensive lineman
Clint Ratermann and senior defensive back
Jabaree Winston to Kickoff after both of them picked up second-team All-GLVC nods last year. The Pumas will be represented by senior tight end and reigning honorable mention pick
Addison Dellinger, as well as senior linebacker
Chad Veccharella, a first-team honoree as a defensive utility star in 2015.
Lincoln University senior wide receiver
Bryson Winfrey will attend the annual preseason event after claiming the offensive utility position on the All-GLVC Second Team last year. He will accompany teammate
Julius Jackson, a junior defensive end for the Blue Tigers.
Missouri S&T senior defensive back
Jeremi Ross was a second-team All-GLVC honoree in 2015 and will be joined in Lebanon by teammate and junior offensive lineman
Aaron Fritts.
Southwest Baptist University junior wideout
Kendrick Payne is coming off an honorable mention All-Conference season, but he also earned second-team accolades as a freshman in 2014. Senior linebacker
Shaun Hutchinson will also represent the Bearcats.
Also in attendance will be Quincy University senior defensive tackle
Darian Johnson – a 2015 honorable mention pick – and redshirt sophomore quarterback
Robbie Kelley, along with William Jewell College senior offensive lineman
Trevor Goforth and senior defensive lineman
Collin Heller.
While the event is for credentialed media only, fans are encouraged to participate in the event through a variety of social media platforms and follow along online with each GLVC school as they rotate through stations over the course of the 90-minute event. INDIANAPOLIS
Hayden Janney, Sr., OL (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern)
Janney has anchored the UIndy offensive at the left tackle for the last three years, starting all 35 games over that span. The Fishers, Indiana native was named All-GLVC First Team in each of his three seasons, while also adding All-Super Region 4 First Team honors last fall. He led a unit that helped the Greyhounds rank second in Division II in fewest tackles for a loss allowed per game and sixth in fewest sacks allowed per game. The UIndy offense also featured both a 3,000-yard passer and a 1,000-yard rusher. Janney excels in the classroom as well, as the perennial Academic All-GLVC honoree garnered the 2015 GLVC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Rob Dury, Sr. LB (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard)
Dury, a local product, enters his senior campaign riding back-to-back seasons with at least 100 tackles. The two-time All-GLVC First Team performer racked up a career-high 10 tackles for a loss last year as well as an interception and a forced fumble. The last of three brothers the play football at UIndy, Dury was also a three-time state champion with nearby Bishop Chatard High School.
LINCOLN
Bryson Winfrey, Sr., WR (Kansas City, MO/University Academy)
One of Lincoln's most versatile players, Winfrey was named All-GLVC second team as an offensive utility player and was an All-GLVC honorable mention at wide receiver last season. Winfrey primarily played wide receiver, but also threw three touchdowns passes and rushed for 62 yards. Winfrey led the Blue Tigers with 60 receptions and scored four touchdowns, gaining 542 yards in the process. The Kansas City, Missouri native also completed six passes for 132 yards, including throwing a 40-yard touchdown pass against William Jewell.
Julius Jackson, Jr., DE (East St. Louis, MO/East St. Louis)
One of the leaders on Lincoln's defensive line, Jackson started all 11 games at defensive end and recorded 40 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and a sack. A native of East St. Louis, Jackson tied for fifth on the team with 21 solo tackles and was also credited with a quarterback hurry. Through two seasons as a Blue Tiger, he has played in all 22 contests and has made seven total tackles for loss.
MCKENDREE
Clint Ratermann, Sr., OL (Breese, IL/Mater Dei)
Ratermann is entering his fourth year as a starter along the Bearcats’ offensive line, and beginning his third as the team’s center. He earned second-team All-GLVC honors in 2015 and has started the last 21 games at center for McKendree. The Breese, Illinois native anchored a line that produced the most prolific offense in program history as McKendree averaged a school-record 487.3 yards per game in 2015.
Jabaree Winston, Sr., DB (Chicago, IL/Simeon)
Winston has been a starter in each of his previous three seasons at McKendree, earning second-team All-GLVC accolades this past season. He was sixth on the team with 46 tackles, including 21 solos as a junior. The Chicagoan moved into a starting role at cornerback late in his freshman season in 2013, and has since totaled 95 career tackles and a pair of interceptions in his three seasons with the Bearcats.
MISSOURI S&T
Aaron Fritts, Jr., OL (Butler, MO/Butler)
Fritts was a starter in all 10 games during the 2015 season at guard. The Butler, Missouri product was part of an offensive line that helped S&T average 375.8 yards and 28.4 points per game during the year.
Jeremi Ross, Sr., CB (Valencia, CA/Texas A&M-Commerce)
Ross, a second-team All-GLVC performer last season in the secondary, finished fourth among the Miners in tackles with 53, including 40 solo stops, and led S&T with nine pass breakups during the year. A native of Valencia, California, Ross also had one pass interception last season, which he returned for a touchdown.
QUINCY
Robbie Kelley, R-So., QB (Rochester, Ill./Rochester)
Kelley will take over the starting quarterback role this season after emerging as a prime prospect in his first career action in 2015. The Rochester, Illinois native completed 61.5 percent (16-for-26) of his passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in three appearances last season. Kelley also displayed the ability to make plays out of the pocket, rushing for 62 yards on 11 attempts, including a long of 28 yards.
Darian Johnson, Sr., DT (Freeport, Ill./Freeport)
Johnson ranked second on the team in tackles last season with 49, despite playing on the interior of the defensive line. The Freeport, Illinois native led the Hawks with 3.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Johnson had season highs of nine tackles in two separate games last season.
SAINT JOSEPH’S
Addison Dellinger, Sr., TE (Fort Wayne, IN/R Nelson Snider)
Dellinger enters his senior season having played in all 32 games, including all 10 outings last season as a starter. He made 33 catches for 349 yards and one touchdown last year and helped block for the Pumas’ running game that put up 131 yards per game. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native shined in the season-opening win at Edinboro last year with four catches for 50 yards, and then helped guide the Pumas to a 24-23 victory over Southwest Baptist on Oct. 24 with five receptions for 52 yards.
Chad Veccharella, Sr., LB (Delray, FL/American Heritage)
A native of Delray, Florida, Veccharella has seen action in all 32 games over the course of his career, and is coming off a 2015 season where he netted 56 tackles, including five for loss, and a career-high 11 stops on September 12 against Alderson Broaddus. He finished fourth on the team in total tackles and will open 2016 as the Pumas most top returning tackler (127).
SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
Kendrick Payne, Jr., WR (San Lorenzo, CA/Skyline)
Payne, one of SBU's offensive captains, played all 10 games last season, collecting 36 receptions for 564 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Last season he hauled in a 98-yard touchdown reception at Missouri S&T, setting the new GLVC longest reception record. In 2015, the San Lorenzo, California native was an All-GLVC Honorable Mention selection after being named a second-team All-GLVC selection in 2014 when he racked up 791 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Shaun Hutchinson, Sr., LB (Kingsland, GA/Camden County)
Hutchinson, one of SBU's captains, played in all 10 games last season, registering 72 tackles with 36 solo stops from the nickel position. A native of Kingsland, Georgia, Hutchinson had the second most solo and total tackles for the Bearcats, while also recording 6.5 tackles for loss that racked up 32 total yards behind the line of scrimmage. He also recorded two sacks, while forcing one fumble this past season.
TRUMAN STATE
Joey Schenck, Sr., WR (Fenton, MO/Rockwood Summit)
A second team All-GLVC receiver in 2015, Schenck led the squad with 71 catches in 11 games. His 6.5 receptions-per-game average was second in the GLVC and his 63.0 yards per game receiving was ninth in the conference. The Fenton, Missouri native had two 100-yard receiving games with a high of 157 yards on 13 catches against William Jewell on October 24. He also hauled in five or more catches in eight games during the season and enters this year’s campaign with 90 receptions for 853 yards and six TDs in 23 games.
Austin Zoda, Sr., DB (Frisco, TX/Frisco)
Zoda is a two-time All-GLVC defensive back and comes off a junior season where he earned first-team accolades. The Bulldogs active career leading tackler with 241 stops in 32 career games also has five interceptions, eight pass breakups and five fumbles forced. Last year the Frisco, Texas product led Truman with 95 total tackles, at 8.6 per game and had three outings with 10 or more stops with a high of 13 in the opener against Midwestern State. He ranked seventh in the GLVC in tackles per game and tied for sixth in fumbles forced with three. The Academic All-GLVC honoree also finished with 4.5 tackles for loss totaling 15 yards and added a pair of interceptions.
WILLIAM JEWELL
Trevor Goforth, Sr., OL (Topeka, KS/Washburn Rural)
Goforth, a native of Topeka, Kansas, will be looked upon this season to contribute to the Cardinals offensive line that graduated four of its five starters in 2015.
Collin Heller, Sr., DL (Kansas City, MO/Staley)
The nearby product of Kansas City, Heller will be one of two returning starters on the defensive line in 2016. He finished 2015 with 30 tackles and two sacks.
