After Southern Indiana opened its 2017-18 season with a 1-1 mark at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic over the weekend, the remaining 14 GLVC men's basketball programs will take to the court this week. The majority of the programs will travel in pairs to either the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge or the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover. Bellarmine and Indianapolis will participate in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge at UIndy, while Rockhurst and William Jewell will compete in the Challenge in Westfield, Indiana. Lewis and UW-Parkside will do battle in the Challenge in Houghton, Michigan, and UMSL and Quincy will be in Big Rapids, Michigan. Host Maryville and Truman State will take part in the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover in St. Louis, while Illinois Springfield and Southern Indiana take part in the Crossover in Canton, Ohio.

The majority of GLVC men's baasketball programs opened their respective seasons Friday night, combining for five wins in a total of nine contests. No. 3 Bellarmine scored an 83-75 victory over Saginaw Valley State in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge at UIndy, while the host Greyhounds fell 83-75 to Northwood. UMSL came back from 13 points down and needed freshman Anthony Hughes to hit a game-winning three-pointer with two seconds left to give the Tritons a 64-62 win over Grand Valley State. Elsewhere in the league, William Jewell rolled Davenport 87-68, Rockhurst topped Purdue Northwest 88-78, and Drury dominated Ottawa, 107-57.

GLVC men's basketball closed out the opening week of the 2017-18 season with four games on the docket Sunday. Maryville and Truman State both improved to 2-0 on the year with wins over Trevecca Nazarene and Cedarville, respectively. Lewis and UW-Parkside were also in action, falling to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan.
