This Week in GLVC Men's Basketball: Jan. 15-21

It's a Monday of divisional showdowns to start the week in GLVC men's basketball action, headlined by GLVC East powers Southern Indiana and Bellarmine, currently the top two teams in the GLVC Point Rating System, squaring off in Louisville.  Coming off its first loss of the season, Bellarmine (14-1, 5-1 GLVC) will look to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 52 games with a victory over rival USI, which enters 13-4 on the year and 4-1 in league play.  Drury (11-2, 4-1) and Truman State (10-5, 5-1) have combined to win their last 11 games.  The Bulldogs welcome in the Panthers for a 7:30 p.m. CT tip in Kirksville.  Bellarmine then hosts Drury on Thursday, while USI brings in Truman State on Saturday.  Elsewhere, McKendree travels to Illinois Springfield, Quincy is at Maryville, UW-Parkside hosts Lewis, and William Jewell heads to Missouri S&T.  All games this week will be seen live and free on all GLVCSN platforms, including GLVCSN.com, GLVCSN iOS/Android mobile apps, and GLVCSN OTT apps on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Android TV.

GLVC men's basketball action tipped off the week with some thrilling divisional play on Monday, capped off by the last bucket of the night belonging to Andrew Ballock's three-pointer from the corner as time expired in overtime to give Drury a 98-96 win at Truman State.  The Panthers, who won their seventh straight, were led by freshman Conley Garrison's career-high 23 points, while the Bulldogs were paced by Jake Velky's game-high 25 points.  In Louisville, No. 2 Bellarmine rebounded from its first loss of the season Saturday to improve the nation's longest home winning streak to 52 games with a 78-62 victory over rival Southern Indiana.  Brent Bach netted a career high of 28 points, while Adam Eberhard totaled 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in the win.  Cristen Wilson picked up 17 points and led three Flyers in double figures as Lewis snapped a three-game skid with a 66-58 win at UW-Parkside.  Pharroh Gordon and Keith Hayes scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, to give William Jewell an 88-67 win at Missouri S&T.  Elsewhere in the league, Nate Bethel came off the bench to record a double-double with a team-high 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds in helping McKendree snap a four-game skid with a 74-59 win at Illinois Springfield.  Maryville defended its home court with an 80-62 victory over Quincy.  Forrester Sims led four Saints in double figures with 18 points.

No. 6 Bellarmine saw its starting five score in double figures and another double-double by Adam Eberhard (11 points, 10 assists) in the Knights' 82-62 win over visiting Drury on Thursday.  UW-Parkside knocked off its second straight top-25 opponent with an 80-66 victory at home over No. 25 William Jewell.  Goran Zagorac went for his second straight double-double, finishing with a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds while Jameel Moore was just one point shy of tying his career high, going for 27 points, five rebounds and five assists.  In Evansville, freshman forward Emmanuel Little posted the school's first 20-20 game with 29 points and 21 rebounds in USI's 98-78 victory over Missouri S&T.  Quincy gave first-year head coach Ryan Hellenthal his first GLVC win with a 69-67 road victory at McKendree.  Casey Teson hit a jumper with 6.8 seconds left in the game to boost Maryville to a thrilling 70-69 victory at Missouri-St. Louis.  Curtis Lewis went for 29 points and Quinton Curry had 14 points and 10 rebounds in Rockhurst's 79-70 win at Lewis.  Delaney Blaylock had 24 points for the Flyers in the loss.  Truman's Jake Velky netted 23 points to lead the Bulldogs to their first over UIndy in school history with an 86-80 victory in Indianapolis.

UIndy picked up its second straight win over Drury for the first time in the schools' short history with a 91-82 victory over the Panthers.  Nolan Berry and Robin Thompson both recorded double-doubles as Maryville won its fifth straight game with a 75-58 victory over Illinois Springfield. Berry had game highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Thompson recorded 11 points and 10 caroms.  Cristen Wilson scored a career-high 38 points as Lewis held off the William Jewell to pick up a 94-92 victory. Wilson scored 25 of his 38 points in the second half on 9-of-12 shooting and also had 15 rebounds. Delaney Blaylock chipped in with 21 and Marco Pettinato added 10 off the bench.  Bellarmine shrugged off some early struggles finishing around the rim to build a sizable 43-19 halftime lead and cruised to its 54th straight victory in Knights Hall with an 85-50 thumping of Missouri S&T.  Redshirt freshman Tanner Stuckman finished with a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Quincy to a 74-61 win over UMSL  Nate Hansen led four Screaming Eagles in double-digits with 23 points, tying a season-high, in an 85-76 victory over Truman State.  After trailing for most of the second half, UW-Parkside stormed back to force overtime and won 81-77 against Rockhurst.  Jameel Moore led the way in the comeback scoring 16 of his team leading 25 points in the second half and overtime period.
