INDIANAPOLIS – The 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament bracket was released late Wednesday by the Conference office.  University of Southern Indiana earned the No. 1 seed in the eight-team tournament, followed by No. 2 Bellarmine University, No. 3 University of Illinois Springfield, and No. 4 Maryville University. All four teams will host quarterfinal action on Sunday, Oct. 28, as the opening round of the GLVC Championship Tournament commences.

Top-seeded Southern Indiana (13-2-1, 11-1-1 GLVC, .885) earned its first regular season title since the Conference began recognizing regular season champions in 2010 and will play in its 22nd league tournament and fourth straight. The 11th-ranked Screaming Eagles, who have captured a GLVC-best 10 Championships in tournament play, will face No. 8 Rockhurst (6-7-2, 5-5-2, .500) at 2:30 p.m. CT on Sunday in Evansville, Indiana. This is the 13th GLVC postseason bid for the Hawks and ninth consecutive, while they have won four of the last six tournament titles. Just last week on Oct. 19, USI earned a 2-1 home victory past Rockhurst in overtime.

No. 2 Bellarmine (10-5-1, 9-3-1, .731) advances to its 27th league postseason and second in a row. The Knights will host No. 7 seed Quincy University (8-8-2, 7-4-2, .615) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Louisville, Kentucky. Quincy advances to the postseason for the 20th year but the first since 2016. The Knights and Hawks will return to their first league matchup of the season where Bellarmine pulled out a 3-2 home on Sept. 28.

No. 3 Illinois Springfield (9-5-3, 8-3-2, .692) will host No. 6 McKendree University (10-5-1, 8-4-1, .654) on Sunday in Springfield, Illinois, at 1 p.m. CT in what will be the Prairie Stars second-ever attempt at capturing a GLVC Championship crown since becoming league members in 2008. They swiped up the third seed over Maryville due to head-to-head results that saw UIS win 1-0 in the first league contest of the season back on Sept. 14, while the Bearcats lost a tiebreaker to UIndy for the fifth seed after a head-to-head tie and loss to USI. However, McKendree will be making history, having earned its first-ever bid to the GLVC postseason since joining the league in 2012. This quarterfinal will be a rematch of Oct. 5 that saw the Stars top the Bearcats, 1-0, at home.

No. 4 Maryville (9-4-3, 8-3-2 .692) will serve as host to fifth-seeded University of Indianapolis (12-4-1, 8-4-1, .654) at 1 p.m. CT Sunday in St. Louis, Missouri. The Saints settled for the fourth seed after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker to UIS, as the Stars came out on top 1-0 to open league play on Sept. 14. UIndy, on the other hand, nabbed the fifth seed over McKendree – despite the two teams tying earlier in the season – due to the Greyhounds’ 1-0 win over USI. Maryville is making its third overall and consecutive trip to the postseason, while UIndy is the defending Conference tournament titleholders and entering the postseason for the sixth-straight season and 26th time overall. The Saints defeated the Greyhounds at home, 3-2, earlier this month on Oct. 5.

Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament semifinals, which will be hosted for the third time in the sport’s history at a neutral site by the GLVC, but this year features a new venue at the Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Ind. The two semifinal contests will be played at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. ET Friday, Nov. 2, while the 2018 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place Sunday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. Last year, fourth-seeded UIndy captured the 2017 GLVC Championship with a 1-0 win past No. 7 USI in the 90th minute.

All GLVC Championship Tournament action will be streamed for free on GLVCSN.com, the GLVCSN iOS and Android mobile apps, and GLVCSN OTT apps on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Android TV. All other details and results can be found on the official tournament homepage at GLVCsports.com/2018soccer.
