INDIANAPOLIS – In the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament, four teams advanced to Friday’s semifinal matches, which will be held in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the Woehrle Athletic Complex.

A year after then-top-seeded Rockhurst University was upset by the 8-seed in quarterfinal action, this year’s No. 8 Hawks garnered a huge win over top-seed and 11th-ranked University of Southern Indiana in convincing fashion, 3-1. Rockhurst beat the Regular Season Champ Screaming Eagles with two goals in the first half and an 11-6 edge in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The other upset of the day came by way of No. 6 McKendree University’s 3-0 shutout at No. 3 University of Illinois Springfield. The Bearcats, in their first-ever postseason appearance, scored in the 44th, 64th, and 76th minute on 15 shots, four of which were on frame.

No. 2 Bellarmine University had no trouble with No. 7 Quincy, rolling to a 4-0 win, scoring the game-winner exactly seven minutes into the contest and finishing the other three in the second half. Gilio Aviles registered a hat trick to help the Knights to their 11th semifinal bid, according to available league records.

The fourth spot in the GLVC semifinal round of the postseason Championship went to No. 4 Maryville University, advancing past fifth-seeded University of Indianapolis, 5-3, on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie through 110 minutes of play. The Saints shot first and made all of their shootout chances, while goalkeeper Christian Kjaersgaard denied the defending champ Greyhounds’ fourth attempt. Maryville will be making its first appearance in the semifinals.
