EAST PEORIA, Ill. – In the final round of the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, No. 4 seed Rockhurst University upset No. 2 seed Drury University, 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21), on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., to win its second league title with the first coming in 2012.

The match began with 14th-ranked Drury firing on all cylinders, going up quickly 5-0 to force a Rockhurst timeout. Upon return to the court, the Hawks earned the very next point but never found their way back into the set, as the Panthers came away with the 25-21 victory. In set two, Rockhurst won the first point and was even with Drury on four separate occasions but never trailed for the duration of the frame, eventually pulling out a 25-20 win.

The 25th-ranked Hawks’ momentum carried over into the third stanza, as Rockhurst answered Drury’s first point with six-straight to force a Panthers timeout. After that, Drury would get within one point five separate times but never drew even or took the lead, as Rockhurst earned the 25-21 win to go ahead 2-1 in the match.
Save for two instances at 1-1 and 19-19 in the fourth and final set, Rockhurst led the whole way from collecting the first point to the last tally en route to the deciding 25-21 final score.

Four Hawks registered double-doubles in the match, including Karli Reichert (22 kills, 17 digs), Dani Prusha (58 assists, 18 digs), Alyssa Woodman (14 kills, 13 digs), and Emma Kriete (10 kills, 13 digs). Drury was led by Kendra Sater (40 assists, 17 digs) and Bree Schmidt (28 digs, 11 assists) in the loss.

With the victory, Rockhurst becomes the 10th team to win in four sets – based on available league history – and earns the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Tournament. The Hawks will learn their opponent when tomorrow night’s Selection Show airs live on NCAA.com at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. The win secures Rockhurst’s fifth-straight and eighth overall NCAA Tournament berth.
