SPRINGEIELD, Mo. – Four teams have advanced to tomorrow’s final match of the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri, which will be played indoors due to a 100-percent chance of rain in the forecast.
Drury University advanced on both the men’s and women’s side, while the University of Indianapolis men and the University of Missouri-St. Louis women are the other two teams that will play for the league title.
No. 1 West Drury will meet No. 1 East UIndy in the men’s final at 9 a.m. CT, while No. 1 West Drury and No. 2 West UMSL will face one another at 12 p.m. for the women’s title match.
Both the Panthers and Greyhounds won 5-0 in their respective semifinal contests, beating Lewis University and University of Southern Indiana. Drury got all three doubles points before finishing things off with wins at #5 singles and #3 singles, while UIndy followed a sweep in the doubles ahead of the #4 and #6 singles points.
The Lady Panthers almost earned a sweep of its own but instead grabbed a 5-1 victory over the defending champion Greyhounds, as UIndy scored the #1 doubles point in the loss. The Tritons secured the only upset of the day, shutting out No. 1 East Bellarmine University, 5-0, as the #4 and #6 singles players wrapped up the win after UMSL got the first three points in doubles play.
