INDIANAPOLIS – Young Harris College and University of Indianapolis have advanced to Sunday’s final match of the inaugural Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament at Key Stadium on the campus of UIndy in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In the first-ever postseason contest for GLVC men’s lacrosse, top-seeded Young Harris defeated fourth-seeded Maryville University, 11-4, Friday evening. The Saints jumped out to an early 3-2 lead with 2:34 left in the first quarter and held that score until the clock read 10:52 in the second frame when the Mountain Lions evened the tally at 3-3. Once YHC took a 4-3 advantage with 9:56 left in the first half, they never trailed again, surging to a 6-3 halftime advantage. It was 8-3 after the third and went to 10-3 with 7:23 left in the contest before Maryville finally found the back of the net again with 1:30 to play. The No. 1 team would respond 19 seconds later by scoring the game’s final goal for the eventual final result. GLVC Player of the Year, Bevan Pate, led all players with five goals and two assists in the victory, while Specialty Player of the Year Zach Stephenson won all 17 face-offs for the victors with a game-high 14 ground balls.

In the nightcap, No. 2 Indianapolis used a 9-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters to help secure a 16-6 win over No. 3 University of Alabama Huntsville. It was the Chargers that opened the scoring 1:39 into the contest, however, but the Greyhounds responded with five-straight goals between 11:05 and :47 in the first quarter to go ahead 5-1. UAH pulled within three, scoring 30 seconds before the period ended, but UIndy turned around to tally nine unanswered goals for a 14-2 lead with 8:01 left in the third frame. UAH would get three consecutive goals – the last of the third quarter and first two in the fourth – to close the gap at 14-5, but even with one final score with 3:59 to go, UIndy would add two more of its own in the last five minutes for the final result.  UIndy got a game-high three goals and two assists from Shawn Kimble, while teammate Parker Kump was close behind with two goals and one assist in the win.

The Mountain Lions and Greyhounds will now meet at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday to determine the first-ever GLVC Men’s Lacrosse Champion.
