INDIANAPOLIS – In the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament, four teams advanced to Friday’s semifinal matches, which will be held in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the Woehrle Athletic Complex November 15.

Nearly stunned by No. 8 seed Drury University, top-seeded McKendree University avoided the upset by using overtime to come from behind for a 3-2 win. The Panthers struck first in the 27th minute before the Bearcats scored the equalizer in the 47th minute. At 54:21, McKendree conceded another tally but again drew things even at 2-2 with just over 24 minutes remaining. It was then five-and-a-half minutes into the overtime frame that the 24th-ranked Bearcats would find the back of the net and punch their ticket to the semifinal round for the second time in program history in as many years. Freshman Michael Hodgson scored the first goal, junior Eddie Davis tallied the second, and sophomore Diego Tapia-Fraites notched the OT game-winner for McKendree.

Second-seeded Bellarmine University had no trouble with 7-seed Lindenwood University, defeating the Lions 8-2, as four Knights tallied goals in the victory. This will be 12th-ranked Bellarmine’s 12th semifinals berth thanks to junior Micah Linscott’s hat trick and a brace from senior Tomas Bernedo – who also registered two assists – and senior Gilio Aviles. Freshman Haziq Zed was the other goal scorer, while junior Collin Rose dished out four assists to tie a single-game program record.

No. 3 seed Maryville University needed just three extra minutes to get passed 6-seed University of Illinois Springfield, as junior Dom Riggio headed in the game-winner in the 93rd minute off a corner kick. Illinois Springfield opened the scoring at 20:49, and it took until the 84th minute for the 17th-ranked Saints to answer with a slotted shot from freshman Braden Johnson. This will be Maryville’s second-straight semifinal appearance.

The only upset of the day came by way of No. 5 University of Southern Indiana’s 3-2 result at No. 4 University of Indianapolis. The teams remained deadlocked for 70 minutes until senior Sean Rickey scored first to put the Screaming Eagles up 1-0 at 72:25, while Indianapolis answered seven minutes later to tie things up. USI then followed with two in quick succession in the 81st and 85th minutes, respectively by senior Morgan Kelly and Rickey. UIndy would tally one more with just over three minutes remaining, but the Eagles were able to outlast the Greyhounds to make their 16th trip to the semis.

Bellarmine and Maryville will play Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern Time in what will be a rematch of last year's final contest, while USI and McKendree will face off at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship match on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
