EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The semifinal round of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament saw No. 3 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 1 seed Rockhurst University win their matches to advance to tomorrow’s Championship contest set for Sunday, Nov. 24 at 12 p.m. Central Time in East Peoria, Ill., at the EastSide Centre.
In the first semifinal, No. 3 seed Missouri-St. Louis won three-straight sets after falling in the opening frame to upset second-seeded Lewis University, 3-1. The 22nd-ranked Tritons responded to a 25-21 loss with three wins of 25-17, 25-23, 25-15. Senior opposite outside hitter Kylie Rudsinski recorded a season-high 19 kills without an error, hitting .559 in leading UMSL to a .205 clip while limiting the 13th-ranked Flyers to a .123 percentage. The win avenged a regular-season 3-1 loss at Lewis and punched its ticket to play for the coveted league crown for the first time in program history.
In the second semifinal, No. 1 seed Rockhurst University made quick work of No. 4 seed University of Indianapolis, 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-11, 25-17. The 21st-ranked Hawks hit a blistering .406, including .486 in the third set, and held the Greyhounds to .160. Junior setter Dani Prusha tallied a double-double with a match-high 39 assists and 10 digs. Rockhurst will now get a shot at going back-to-back for the Conference crown in its fourth appearance in the title tilt.
Tomorrow’s match will be the first meeting between UMSL and Rockhurst in the postseason’s main event.
