INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis captured its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday night at the Crawfordsville Aquatics Center in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The Greyhounds earned 801 points for the win, followed by Missouri S&T (768.5), McKendree University (627), Drury University (579) and University of Missouri-St. Louis (261.5) in the top five. Truman State University (231), Lewis University (198), Bellarmine University (197), William Jewell College (145) and Maryville University (101) rounded out the 10-team field.
At the conclusion of the meet, UIndy senior Rodrigo Codo Berti was named the GLVC Swimmer of the Year, while teammate Payton Staman was recognized as GLVC Diver of the Year following his sweeps on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards on Thursday and Friday. Missouri S&T newcomer Andy Huffman was tabbed GLVC Freshman of the Year by the league coaches, while his mentor Doug Grooms was voted by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year.
The league coaches also selected McKendree as the recipient of the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award in men’s swimming and diving, while 10 student-athletes were named GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees for having best displayed good sportsmanship throughout the year.
