INDIANAPOLIS – Four teams have advanced to tomorrow’s final match of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana, which will be the first time the event has been outside due to inclement weather Friday and Saturday.
University of Indianapolis advanced on both the men’s and women’s side, while the Bellarmine University women and the Drury University men are the other two teams that will play for the league title.
No. 1 East Indianapolis will meet No. 4 East Bellarmine in the women’s final at 11 a.m. ET, while No. 1 East UIndy and No. 1 West Drury will face one another at 2:30 p.m. for the men’s title match.
Both Greyhound teams won 4-0 in their respective semifinal contests, as the women defeated University of Illinois Springfield and the men topped University of Missouri-St. Louis. The men will be looking to go four-straight seasons as GLVC Champions, while the women will play for a third crown in five years.
The Knights made history with their 4-2 upset win over No. 3W Missouri-St. Louis, as they become the first 4-seed to play in the title tilt. Sunday will also mark the first time Bellarmine has played in the finals since the event changed from an individual scoring system to team seeding and scoring in 1995. In addition, the Knights are seeking their second Conference crown, as the 1989 squad earned the most points 30 years ago for the program’s first title.
The Panthers allowed just one point in their 4-1 victory past the East’s 2-seed Lewis University and will play for their eighth GLVC Championship. They last won back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
Streaming on the GLVC Sports Network will occur for both matches at #1 doubles and #1 singles on
GLVCSN.com, the iOS/Android mobile apps, as well as on the Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT platforms.
