GREENWOOD, Ind. – No. 6 University of Indianapolis defeated Bellarmine University, 4-0, in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Sunday at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana, to claim its league-best 11th title and third in five years with the last coming in 2017.
The No. 2 doubles squad of Hanna Volikova and Alina Kislitskaya were first to finish for the Hounds, taking a 6-2 win over Bellarmine’s Jennifer Skonieczny and Ava Ratcliff. Maja Pindelska and Anna Valiaeva clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win of their own at No. 3, closing out the doubles competition in just under 30 minutes. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished at 5-3 in favor of UIndy’s Nikol Alexeeva and Anna Novikova against Maggie Walroth and Ashley Jonathan.
Valiaeva was the first to take a singles win, earning a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. Alexeeva notched the third UIndy point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, while the lone Greyhound senior, Volikova, clinched the 2019 GLVC Championship with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1.
At the conclusion of the Championship, UIndy head coach Malik Tabet was named GLVC Coach of the Year for the second time. His Greyhounds now await the NCAA Selection Show on May 7 to determine their Regional fate. The first round of the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships will be played on campus sites May 13-14.
