SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis and Bellarmine University senior James Inman hold the team and individual leads, respectively, after the opening day of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Illinois.
After trailing opening-round leader Bellarmine by four strokes, UMSL (293-286-579) fired a tournament-low 286 in the second 18 holes today to end with a one-stroke advantage over the Knights (289-291-580). Defending GLVC Champion University of Indianapolis (296-287-583) sits third, while Maryville University (292-296-588) is fourth.
The top four teams at the end of 54 holes of stroke play on Monday will advance to Tuesday's medal/match play semifinals.
UMSL was paced by Reilly Ahearn (73-69-142) and Chris Ferris (72-71-143), who sit under par in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Inman, who won the 2017 GLVC Championship as a sophomore following a freshman campaign in which he finished runner-up at Panther Creek back in 2016, was back to his sub-par habits at the league's postseason event. The senior fired a pair of 3-under-par 69s for a 138 - three shots ahead of a three-way tie for second, including Maryville's Keenan Flemming (71-70-141), Drury University's Clayton Larsen (71-70-1141) and UIndy's Oliver Mast (73-68-141), who carded the tournament's low round of 68 during his afternoon round.
Throughout Inman's career, he has played the GLVC Championships 6-under par, following a 4-under runner-up effort in 2016, the win at 3-under in 2017, and a fifth-place tie last year at 7-over.
Monday's final round of stroke play begins at 8 a.m. CT on both No. 1 and 10 tees.
The GLVC Golf Championships will once again be streamed live and free on all GLVC Sports Network platforms, including GLVCSN.com, iOS/Android mobile apps, and Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT apps.
