EAST PEORIA, Ill. – After the first day of the event got washed out on Thursday, six teams moved on to the second day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship Tournament on what turned out to be a wholly dry day, competing in eight games that included six contests in the winners’ bracket and two in the losers’ bracket. Competition resumes Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. Central Time at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.

Two teams survived the first day unscathed, including the top-two seeds in No. 1 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 2 University of Indianapolis, winning both of their games to remain in the winners’ bracket. Missouri-St. Louis defeated 8-seed Lewis University 3-0 in Game 1 to start the day before beating 5-seed University of Illinois Springfield 4-2 in Game 3. Indianapolis also found its way through the day with a pair of wins, starting with a 5-3 victory in Game 5 over No. 7 seed Drury University, followed by a 10-3 victory of sixth-seeded Truman State University in Game 7. Now the Tritons and Greyhounds will face each other in a 1 p.m. contest tomorrow afternoon.

Two other teams were not so fortunate, having been eliminated from the league’s postseason event after two losses in the double-elimination tournament. Lewis fell to UMSL first and then got handed an 8-inning, 7-5 defeat courtesy No. 4 Maryville in the elimination Game 4, while No. 3 University of Southern Indiana was upset in its first game 1-0 against Truman in Game 6 before getting knocked out by Drury University in a shocking five-inning 8-0 loss in Game 8. That win for the Panthers was their first-ever in the league’s postseason event. Additionally, Game 2 saw Illinois Springfield upset Maryville, 4-1 in the morning session.

On Saturday, Game 9 and 10 will open the day when Maryville takes on Truman and UIS faces Drury, respectively, at 11 a.m. Game 11 follows with the UMSL-UIndy matchup before the Game 9 and 10 winners square off at 3 p.m. Closing out the second day will be the Game 12 winner versus the loser of Game 11 at 5 p.m. in Game 13.

Streaming on the GLVC Sports Network will occur for all games on GLVCSN.com, the GLVCSN iOS/Android mobile apps, as well as on the Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT platforms. A replay of all games played on Friday can be found on every platform by selecting the “On Demand” tab and searching for the stream.
