KIRKSVILLE, Missouri – The University of Indianapolis will head into the final day of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the leader in both the men’s and women’s competitions, which are being held at Gardner Track at Stokes Stadium on the campus of Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

The Greyhounds, who finished last year’s GLVC Championships second and fourth in the men’s and women’s race, respectively, currently hold double-digit leads entering Saturday’s final day of the meet.

On the men’s side, UIndy owns 88 points, followed by defending GLVC Champion Missouri S&T (64 points), Lewis University (21.5), University of Illinois Springfield (20) and University of Southern Indiana (19) in the top five.  McKendree University (18), Truman State University (14.5) and William Jewell College (10) are sixth through eighth, respectively, while Bellarmine University and Drury University are tied for ninth with six points each.

In the women’s race, UIndy boasts 72.5 points and owns a 27.5-point advantage over three-time defending league champion Lewis (46) and Maryville University (33).  Host Truman State (27.5) holds a slight lead over McKendree for fourth, while Missouri S&T (22) and Drury (14) are sixth and seventh, Southern Indiana (10) and Illinois Springfield (10) are tied for eighth, while Bellarmine (9) and William Jewell (2) are 10th and 11th.

In Friday’s events, McKendree senior Monte Wolke (4.90 meters) and UIndy sophomore Mary Costello (3.90m) both picked up NCAA provisional qualifying marks with their winning clearances in the pole vault.

Missouri S&T sophomore Luke Allen (7.06m) and Lewis senior Cierra Pulliam (5.96m) scored wins in the long jump, USI sophomore Nathan Hall (9:16.84) and UIndy senior Brianna Leonard (10:49.02) placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and William Jewell junior Ryan Hoffman (6027) and Maryville sophomore Casey Berberich (4873) won the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively.

It was a busy day for GLVC throwers as Lewis senior Lane Kadlec set a new GLVC record with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 15.83 meters to win the women’s shot put, while Katie Monk notched a new league record of 58.33 meters to win the hammer throw.  Monk’s fellow Hound, Austin Hogan, won the hammer throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 65.17 after he picked up his third straight discus title with a heave of 54.67 meters.

Preliminaries were contested in several events, including the 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters, as well as the 100, 110, and 400-meter hurdles.  In the women’s 800 meters, defending GLVC Champion Ashleigh Macleod shaved four seconds off her winning time from a year ago and reset the GLVC record with a time of 2:09.51 in her qualifying run.

In Saturday’s field events, which begin at 9 a.m. CT, the men will compete in the finals of the javelin, high jump, triple jump and shot put, while the women will close out the field events in the discus, javelin, high jump and triple jump.

Running events commence at 11 a.m. CT with the 4x100-meter relay.  The 1,500 and 5,000 meters will also be contested, along with the finals of the aforementioned running events that were held Friday.  The GLVC Championships conclude with the 4x400-meter relay, with the women’s race beginning at 2:25 p.m. CT.
