EAST PEORIA, Ill. – No. 1 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 2 University of Indianapolis have advanced through Saturday’s games and will meet in Sunday’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship finals at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois, beginning at 12 p.m. Central Time.

The Tritons and Greyhounds both found their way to championship Sunday, as UMSL played three games the last two days – one today and two Friday – while UIndy played two games apiece on both days.
UMSL’s lone contest today was against UIndy in the winners’ bracket, as the Tritons earned a 2-0 win in a 10-inning pitchers’ duel to punch a ticket directly to the championship game and send the Greyhounds down to the losers’ bracket. A pair of All-GLVC first-team pitchers – UMSL’s Andee Tiffee and UIndy’s Halie Waters – went toe-to-toe through nine scoreless innings before Triton first baseman Chelsea Martinez belted a two-run, two-out shot over the right field fence for the lead in the top of the 10th inning that held up through the bottom half of the frame. Tiffee was credited with the complete-game, four-hit shutout win with 11 strikeouts and no walks, while Waters tallied 17 Ks in the loss.

In the first two games of the day from the losers’ bracket, No. 6 Truman upset No. 4 Maryville University, 7-4, while No. 7 Drury University got an upset of its own, 1-0, thanks to a Kasey Cazares complete-game, one-hit shutout against No. 5 University of Illinois Springfield.

Truman then went on to beat Drury, 7-4, to stay alive but fell to UIndy in the day’s final contest, 3-0.

This will be the Tritons’ seventh-straight appearance in the league’s title tilt while the Hounds will be making their fifth-ever appearance and first since 2016 when they defeated UMSL 7-1 the year after UMSL beat UIndy 4-0.
If the Greyhounds win the first matchup on Sunday, a second game will be played immediately following in order to decide the 2019 Softball Tournament Championship.

Streaming on the GLVC Sports Network will occur for the championship game on GLVCSN.com, on the GLVCSN iOS/Android mobile apps, as well as on the Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT platforms. A replay of all games played today can be found on every platform by selecting the “On Demand” tab and searching for the stream.
