INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in 11 years, Missouri S&T is back on top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the sport of men’s indoor track and field, as the Miners captured the 2020 championship Sunday at the Athletics & Recreation Center (ARC) on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
S&T totaled 108 points over the two-day event, besting host UIndy by nearly 30 points. The Greyhounds secured second place with 79.5 points, just ahead of newcomer Southwest Baptist University (77). The Bearcats took third by just a half-point as Lewis University followed in fourth at 76.5. The University of Southern Indiana (51) was fifth, McKendree University (50) was sixth, and Lindenwood University (49), Maryville University (44), Bellarmine University (29) and Truman State University (27) rounded out the top 10. th, Drury University (23) was 12
th, and the University of Illinois Springfield (16) and William Jewell College (8) completed the 14-team field.
At the conclusion of the event, Lindenwood junior Sam Yaro was named GLVC Track Athlete of the Year, while Maryville freshman Don Jackson was named both the GLVC Field Athlete of the Year and GLVC Freshman of the Year as well. Missouri S&T’s Shaun Meinecke was recognized by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year.
Each event winner was named first-team All-Conference, while runners-up were awarded second-team accolades.
In addition, Lewis was named the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award winner, while 14 student-athletes were recognized as GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees and are now candidates for their respective school’s male Spalding Sportsmanship Award at the end of the academic year.
