The freight train of changes hit everyone so fast, it was hard to comprehend what exactly was happening with our practices, our competitions, our university, and our country.

On a Thursday, we were working on 4x1 exchanges. That following Monday the bags of most students were packed, and in the course of one week campus was closed to employees.

I tried to think of how it would have made me feel as a student-athlete, but couldn’t quite wrap my head around that feeling. I immediately fell back to that safety net of preparing for next year. But now, as I have time to reflect, there isn’t another group ever that will be just like this one. And I wish we could have had more of it.

For me, that’s the lesson I’m learning and will continue to be reminded of. The notion of live in the moment. Not the idea of throwing caution to the wind, but the idea of appreciating those daily interactions a bit more, getting the most quality out of the day, and trying not to assume it will all be there for me forever.

For those on our team and others that never got the chance to take the field or track or court one more time, there are no amounts of sorry that we as coaches can extend to you, but to all graduating seniors everywhere, thank you for all that you did in helping make our conference what it is!

Are you a student-athlete, coach, administrator or a part of the athletics support staff on campus, and want to share your story during these challenging times?  We are Somone To Listen.  CLICK HERE to submit your story today.  We would love to hear from all of you!
