USI, Lindenwood Win First GLVC Softball Weekly Honors

INDIANAPOLIS - University of Southern Indiana senior leftfielder Alicia Webb and Lindenwood University senior pitcher Marina Esparza have been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in softball, it was announced by the league office Monday.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alicia Webb, Southern Indiana
Sr., LF, Elberfeld, Ind.
Major: Kinesiology

Team Results: 1-2 L, 8-7 W vs. Wingate (2/19) | 3-8 L, 1-8 L at #2 North Georgia (2/20) | 4-6 L at #5 Young Harris (2/21)
  • Led USI with .500 (8-of-16) batting average, three runs, two doubles, a home run, and five RBI
  • Added .813 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage with 13 total bases, two doubles, a home run, and a walk
  • Tallied at least one hit in each game, including two-run homer off one of nations best pitchers in UNG's Kylee Smith
  • Went a combined 6-of-10 at the plate with a double and three RBI against nationally-ranked UNG and YHC
  • Has hit safely in nine-straight games, dating back to last season
  • Earns first career Player of the Week award
  • Last Screaming Eagles Player of the Week: Claire Johnson (3/11/19)


SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Marina Esparza, Lindenwood
Sr., P, Mokena, Ill.
Major: Special Education

Team Results: 7-0 W vs. Parkside (2/19)
  • Pitched complete-game shutout for in-region win over Parkside
  • Struck out career-best seven batters
  • Allowed just five base hits with no walks and only one double
  • Held Parkside to .185 batting average
  • Notched 14th career complete game and fifth career shutout
  • Earns first career Pitcher of the Week award
  • Last Lions Pitcher of the Week: Amanda Weyh (3/9/20)
