EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Four Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) volleyball programs earned wins in their respective Conference tournament quarterfinal contest on Friday and now advance to the semifinals scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The 39th annual GLVC Volleyball Championship Tournament is held at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., for the seventh straight year.
Friday marked the first time since the 2000 GLVC Volleyball postseason event that each quarterfinal finished in three sets.
No. 1 Lewis University, No. 2 University of Missouri-St. Louis, No. 3 University of Southern Indiana, and No. 5 Missouri S&T each swept their respective opponents in the quarterfinal round. The second-seeded Tritons battle the third-seeded Screaming Eagles at 2 p.m. CT, with the top-seeded Flyers battling the fifth-seeded Miners at 5:30 p.m.
Lewis needed five sets to down S&T back on March 20 in Romeoville, Ill., earning tight victories in the final two frames to keep its then-unblemished record intact. Missouri-St. Louis handed USI a straight-set defeat on March 6, and now rank No. 7 in the country.
