Championship Central | Tournament Bracket | GLVCSN: McKendree vs. Southern Indiana

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – McKendree University hoisted its first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Women’s Soccer Championship since 2017 on Sunday, downing third-seeded University of Southern Indiana, 5-2, from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

Morgan Beyer gave the Screaming Eagles an early lead with a goal in the 11’ off an assist from Katlyn Andres; however, McKendree’s Emma Knoebel capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity 20 minutes later to knot the title match at one apiece heading into halftime.

After the break, Knoebel drilled another PK to put the Bearcats ahead for the remainder of the contest. Anna Stiffler bookended a score from Riley Ross in the 70’ to make the score 5-1, before USI’s Rachel Gray connected on a save that bounced away from McKendree keeper Abby Tucker in the 83’. Knoebel was credited with the second Stiffler score, and finished with five points in the win.

Alynnah O’Leary earned the assist on Ross’ goal.

With the win, McKendree avenged its loss to Southern Indiana in the 2019 GLVC Women’s Soccer Championship when the Screaming Eagles claimed the title as the No. 7 seed with a win in PKs.

The Bearcats and Screaming Eagles both put nine shots on goal in the title bout, with Tucker turning away seven USI efforts.
