Maryville vs. UIndy
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Maryville University outlasted top-seeded University of Indianapolis in penalty kicks on Sunday to claim its second Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men’s Soccer Championship from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
The Saints and Greyhounds drew 1-1 through 110 minutes, before second-seeded Maryville defeated UIndy in PKs, 5-3.
Grady Schliepsiek broke the ice in the 50’, netting the match’s first goal off an assist from Ben Brodie. However, UIndy’s Cole Rainwater connected on a header pass from Kendall Allen off a corner kick to knot the contest at one apiece. Jeremy Fechtman also tallied an assist on the play.
Maryville and UIndy combined for eight shots in the overtime sessions, but it was the Greyhounds that put four efforts on frame that were turned away by Saints’ keeper Liam Walraven.
All five Saints drilled their PK opportunity, with Mirza Hasecic leading off with a successful strike. Cedric Sengl and Dom Riggio followed suit with goals, while Brodie and Eyob Tadesse capped the afternoon off with the win.
Hasecic led the team with seven shots, while he and Ricardo Andrade both put two attempts on frame.
