Four Teams Advance Through GLVC Men’s Tennis Quarterfinals

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Semifinal action for the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament has been set for Saturday, following four quarterfinal matches on Friday at three locations in Romeoville and Plainfield, Illinois. Three of the four higher-seeded teams advanced, while one lower seed earned an upset, in the quarterfinal round, including Southwest Baptist University, University of Indianapolis, University of Illinois Springfield, and University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Playing in its first GLVC postseason, 22nd-ranked and the West’s top-seeded Southwest Baptist, made quick work of the East’s No. 4 seed McKendree University, 4-0. The Bearcats’ No. 1 and 3 doubles got the match going with their first point, while singles Nos. 2, 1, and 4 won in straight sets to secure the win.

Two other matches were also 4-0 sweeps, including #1E Indianapolis over #4W Rockhurst University and West 3-seed Missouri-St. Louis over East 2-seed Lewis University.

The lone upset on the day went to No. 3 East Illinois Springfield, which topped No. 2 West Drury University, 4-1. The Prairie Stars began with a win at No. 1 and 3 doubles for the first point. In singles play, UIS got its points at Nos. 6, 1, and 5, while the Panthers only tally came from Augustin Diot at No. 2.

The Stars will now meet the Greyhounds and the Bearcats will face the Tritons in Saturday’s semifinals, as both matches will begin at 12 p.m. Central Time, respectively at Lewis and Romeoville High School.

Semifinal winners will advance to Sunday’s championship contest, with the start time set for 12pa.m.
