East Peoria's EastSide Centre Set to Host
2013 GLVC Softball Championship
The 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship will be held on May 3-5 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., It will mark the 10th straight year the GLVC Softball Championship will be held at the EastSide Centre. The 2013 event will also mark the 30th annual GLVC Softball Championship.
The EastSide Centre is one of the nation's top softball facilities and annually hosts numerous events throughout the year. Mizuno Field, EastSide Centre's championship softball field, was named the Softball Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association in 2008.
Eight teams will vie for the 2013 GLVC crown and the opportunity to represent the conference at the NCAA Division II National Championship. Those eight teams will consist of the top three teams from the East Division, the top three teams from the West Division and two wildcard teams.
Indianapolis needed only five innings to earn its first-ever GLVC Softball Championship last season after earning an 8-0 victory over Illinois Springfield. In the circle, reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Year Jennifer DeMotte allowed just one hit while striking out nine Prairie Stars in the win.
Lewis' 10 titles paces the conference, followed by Kentucky Wesleyan (4), UW-Parkside (3), Southern Indiana (3), and Indianapolis (1). Former GLVC members SIU Edwardsville (5), Northern Kentucky (2), and Ashland (1) have also claimed GLVC Softball Championships.
