Eight Teams Set to Vie for
19th GLVC Women's Soccer Championship

The 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament will take place Nov. 8 and 10 at the highest remaining seed following first-round action on Nov. 3. The top-four seeds will host the tournament openers in the eight-team bracket.

Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance in the GLVC Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by the highest-seeded semifinalist on Friday, Nov. 8. Two semifinal contests will be played Friday at times to be determined, while the 2013 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place Sunday, Nov. 10.

Tickets and game times will be announced during the week of the GLVC Championship Tournament once the highest-remaining seed and host is known.

This season marks the 19th year of the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The 2013 event will also be the ninth consecutive year that eight schools will participate in the GLVC Championship.

Former GLVC member Northern Kentucky leads the conference with seven league titles, followed by UW-Parkside with four crowns and Saint Joseph's with two.  Five schools have claimed one GLVC Championship apiece, including Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis and Quincy.

Last year, the top-two seeded teams met in the tournament final for the fourth time in the past five years.  No. 1 seed Quincy earned its first-ever GLVC Championship after finishing runner-up in 1995, 2009, and 2011.  The Lady Hawks captured a 1-0 shutout over No. 2 William Jewell, which made the GLVC postseason event in its first year of eligibility.

Quincy netted just two goals over three tournament games, but kept their opponents scoreless in each contest.  The Lady Hawks survived a scare from No. 8 seed Drury in the quarterfinals, advancing 2-0 on penalty kicks following a scoreless tie and then blanked No. 5 Rockhurst in the semifinals, 1-0.

The remainder of the 2012 GLVC Championship Tournament field was comprised of No. 3 Bellarmine, No. 4 UW-Parkside, No. 6 Southern Indiana, and No. 7 Lewis.
