University of Southern Indiana senior midfielder Jeffrey McClure has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for men’s soccer, it was announced Monday by the league office. McClure recorded four goals and one assist for nine points in two Screaming Eagles’ road wins last week, helping the team to a five-match winning streak for the first time since 2003.
McClure started the week by coming off the bench to register two shots and assist on the game-winning goal in USI’s victory over Saint Joseph’s College on Friday. The Indianapolis, Ind., native then finished the week in his hometown with a spectacular four-goal performance in the 5-1 win over the University of Indianapolis. The four-goals were a single-game career-best for McClure and fell one goal shy of the USI single-match record set in 1986.
McClure now leads USI with 16 points on six points and four assists on the year.
The honor is the first of his career and he is the first USI player to earn the award since Rush Drugger last year on Oct. 24.
At 7-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play, the Eagles host William Jewell (8-2, 6-2 GLVC) and Rockhurst (7-1-2, 6-1-1) this week.
