Bellarmine University senior Angela Musk has captured her fourth Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week award of the season, it was announced today by the conference office. Musk was previously honored in each of the first three weeks of the season. The award is arguably Musk’s fourth-straight accolade as the only other female recognized this year was last week’s honoree Kristen Dippold of Quincy when Musk did not compete.
Musk finished second overall in a Greater Louisville Classic field of 337 runners in a time just a second and a half off her own five-kilometer school record of 17:32.2 Her time of 17:32.81 on Saturday helped the Knights to a ninth-place finish in the Blue Race, which was contested by 42 other teams – the largest field in the country.
The New Hope, Ky., native has now earned five Runner of the Week awards for her career, having also been honored on Sept. 20 of last year.
Her five weekly accolades are tied with Southern Indiana’s Mary Ballinger five career honors from 2007-09 for the second-most in conference history and are just one shy of the conference record held by UW-Parkside’s Hope Christie, who was recognized six times over a two-year span from 2010-11.
Bellarmine returns to action this Saturday at the Gibson Family Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
