Lewis University’s Andrew McLain has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. McLain was picked as the conference’s top runner from last week in a vote by all the conference coaches. The junior was honored for his personal-best time of 24:30.35 on the 8,000-meter course at the Greater Louisville Classic last Saturday.
McLain was the top Division II finisher in the race, placing 32nd overall while helping the Flyers to a 17th-place result in the 31-team Gold Race field. His efforts enabled Lewis to defeat eight fellow Division II programs, including two ranked in the top 15.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native earns the second weekly award of his career, having first been honored on Sept. 27, 2011. He is the second Flyer to be recognized by the league this year as teammate Sean Smith earned the first Runner of the Week accolade of the season on Sept. 4.
Lewis travels to UW-Parkside this weekend to compete in the Rangers’ Lucian Rosa Invitational on Saturday.
