University of Southern Indiana senior midfielder Jeffrey McClure has earned his second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honor for men’s soccer, it was announced Monday by the league office.
McClure helped the Screaming Eagles to 1-1-0 week, including its first ever win over Rockhurst University. The senior midfielder recorded all three of USI’s goals versus 16th-ranked Rockhurst on Sunday, marking his second hat trick this season. The win over the nationally-ranked Hawks was the first win over a ranked team by USI since 2000.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native also fired five shots in the 1-0 loss to league-leader William Jewell on Friday.
McClure now leads USI with 22 points on nine goals and four assists on the year.
McClure’s back-to-back honors mark the first time a player has been recognized in consecutive weeks since Lewis’ Armin Vrebac was named GLVC Player of the Week on Oct. 4 and Oct. 11, 2010.
At 8-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play, the sixth-place Eagles travel to Drury on Friday and Missouri S&T on Sunday.
