University of Southern Indiana freshman Cody Stone and junior Erika Wilson have earned the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week awards of the 2012 season, it was announced by the conference office Monday. Stone and Wilson both paced USI at last Saturday’s Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Stone's time of 25 minutes, 44.70 seconds in the 8-kilometer run was a season-best for the Indianapolis, Ind., native. The freshman finished seventh overall to lead the eighth-ranked Screaming Eagles to a 42-point runner-up result, 24 markers behind Division I Morehead State University (18 points), which had the top-three finishers in the race.
This is the first career weekly award for Stone and the first for a USI runner since Michael Jordan was honored earlier this year on Sept. 18.
