INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, N.C.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Mastroianni, a junior second baseman for the Eagles, helped Southern Indiana to a 2-2 record last week. He hit .688 in the four contests, scored nine runs and collected five runs batted in and nine stolen bases.
In the Eagles’ 10-9 loss to Henderson State on Feb. 26, Mastoianni was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. He posted a 4-for-5 effort with three runs, two RBI and a home run in the Eagles’ 9-8 loss in the nightcap.
In Southern Indiana’s 11-5 win over Oakland City on Feb. 28, Mastroianni was 3-for-4 with a double and four stolen bases.
He completed the week with a 1-for-3 effort in the Eagles’ 9-4 win over Findlay on March 3. He walked twice and had two more steals.
Mastroianni is hitting .485 this season with a team-high 15 runs and 12 stolen bases. The Eagles are 5-3 under first-year coach Tracy Archuleta
Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Tyler Wright, Saint Joseph’s Joe Panozzo, SIU Edwardsville’s James Kulovitz, UIndy’s Dalan Dugger and UW-Parkside’s Andy Heller.
