University of Southern Indiana freshman Cody Stone and junior Erika Wilson have earned the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week awards of the 2012 season, it was announced by the conference office Monday. Stone and Wilson both paced USI at last Saturday’s Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Wilson guided the 23rd-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team to a second-place finish Saturday at the 5-kilometer Fast Cats Classic, finishing fourth with a season-best time of 18:17.80. A native of Pekin, Ind., Wilson helped the Eagles to a total of 40 points, which was 10 shy of event winner Western Kentucky, a Division I foe that boasted five of the top 10 finishes, including first and second place.
Wilson picks up her first career weekly award and is the first USI women’s runner to be recognized by the conference since Jackie Henderson earned the league’s final honor of the 2011 season on Oct. 18.
