University of Southern Indiana freshman midfielder Josh Weinzapfel has earned the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week award of the 2012 campaign, it was announced by the league office on Monday.  Weinzapfel was lauded for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles' win at Kentucky Wesleyan to conclude the regular season.

In the 5-0 shutout over the Panthers, the Evansville, Ind., native took part in four of USI's five goals with his first collegiate goal and three assists. He scored the Eagles' second goal of the game and assisted on the third, fourth, and fifth tallies.

Weinzapfel earns the first weekly award of his career and is the second USI player to be recognized by the conference this year.  Senior forward Jeffrey McClure was honored twice this season, both on Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.

Weinzapfel and the Eagles continue GLVC Championship Tournament action at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they travel to play top-seeded Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. USI hopes to advance to Sunday's GLVC Championship match for the first time since 2002 and win its first conference crown since 1991.
