INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.The University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Matt Tesson (St. Louis, Mo.) and is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

 

Tesson helped the Rivermen open the season 5-1, including a 2-1 series win over Northern Kentucky, with his play last week.

 

He finished the week with a .519 batting average, 17 runs batted in, six runs, two home runs, two doubles and a triple.

 

Tesson, a senior first baseman, was 14-for-27 at the plate and posted a slugging percentage of .889.

 

Included in his hitting performance was a 7-for-10 effort in opening day wins over the University of Sciences-Philadelphia and St. Rose College. He had six RBI and three runs scored in the victories.

 

The Rivermen took two of three from conference-foe Northern Kentucky over the weekend. Tesson hit .363 in the series with 10 RBI, including a game-winner in the Rivermen’s 4-3 opening win on March 10 and a go-ahead grand slam in their 9-2 win in the nightcap.

 

Missouri-St. Louis (5-1, 2-1 GLVC) will travel to Missouri-Rolla for a GLVC doubleheader on March 14.

  

Other top performances in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Grant Staniszewski, Drury’s Michael York, Northern Kentucky’s Evan McDole, Quincy’s Scott Hauber, Rockhurst’s Zach Troilo, SIU Edwardsville’s Ben Bartley , Southern Indiana’s Darin Mastroianni, and UW-Parkside’s Andrew Jarzabek.
