The University of Indianapolis senior guard Kristin Turner was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for contests played Nov. 12-18, it was announced by the league on Monday.
In No. 11 Indianapolis lone contest of the week, Turner led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting (.571), while also adding eight assists and four steals against No. 24 Ferris State, 72-53.
Against the Bulldogs, the Seymour, Ind. native went 3-for-7 (.429) from beyond the arc increasing her streak of 36 consecutive games with a made 3-pointer. As a team, the Greyhounds shot 43.8% overall and hit 11-of-31 (35.5%) three's in addition to five-of-eight (62.5%) free throws.
Turner has fronted the Greyhounds (2-0) in both contests in points (18.0), assists (7.0), and steals (3.0) in 83 minutes of court action in two games so far this season.
Like their football colleagues, Indianapolis heads to Colorado for the holiday weekend. The Greyhounds will play two games at the Regis Thanksgiving Classic in Denver, Colo., starting with a contest versus Colorado School of Mines Nov. 23, followed by host Regis on Saturday.
The honor is Turner’s second of her career as she earned the award on Jan. 16, 2012.
